KPGC Vets Win KGVL Group Winners Championships : Report By Captain Rob Wild

I am very pleased to advise you that the Knole Park team ended the day victorious in the Vets Group Winners Championships today, beating the best teams from the other Vets Leagues in Kent. This is our third win in this event, the previous wins being in 1995 and 1999. Obviously, as host team, we were expected to either win or be near the top of the field but as our pairing scores came in, it looked like we may not quite have done the job. Our pair scores ranged between 34 and 41 - when we should perhaps have expected to score a minimum of 38-40 per pair in Fourball betterball. However, conditions today were cold to begin with (5 degrees) and the wind increased through the day, gusting up to 20-25mph on occasion. The course was also in fantastic condition with slick greens. All this made scoring difficult and our final team score of 186 proved to be 3 shots better than our two closet rivals, with Boughton coming 2nd on countback on 183.

Well done to the whole squad for the win today and in all our 2018 league matches, which culminated in our Group 3 League and Winners Championship victories. We can now celebrate in style on the 26th October and hopefully have a third consecutive League win next year.

Congratulations all!

Regards,

Rob
